In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.— Matthew 5:16

You call us, Lord,
to shine our light.
To pierce
the darkness;
to step out
from the shadows;
to light
the way.
But, Lord, we prefer
to hide,
to ignore,
to forget.
We want your
light to shine
in our lives,
to chase away
our fears,
our sorrows,
our regrets.
But, Lord, we prefer
to keep your light
for ourselves,
to hold it close,
to keep it hidden.
We are afraid
of the darkness
of our world,
our minds,
our hearts.
We are afraid
our light is
not strong enough,
bright enough,
long lasting.
We are afraid
the darkness
will overwhelm
our light.
Teach us to shine
not our light
but yours.
Remind us that
your light
is enduring,
eternal,
everlasting.
Remind us that
your light
overcomes
darkness;
illumines
evil;
rekindles
hope.
So let us
shine.
