Village2Village Project is one of our mission partners in Africa. We recently received this email from them.

Last month, many V2V friends met Dr. Christine Akol, Serere’s first medical graduate and one of Village2Village Project’s very first children when we began in 2003. Twelve year old Christine, once a shy, quiet, hungry little girl needing a sponsor, is now serving her medical internship in a hospital just 13 miles from where she grew up. This happened because people just like you cared enough to change her story.

A few of our partners have challenged us to raise $45,000 to further expand the impact of Village2Village Project for even more children in Serere District.  The need is so great, and there are so many desperate children that we discovered deep in the bush when we were delivering famine relief this summer.   They have offered to match the first $20,500 donated dollar for dollar during the month of October for gifts beyond sponsorship. Just note “MATCH” when you give and it will be doubled! $10 will become $20, $50 will become $100, $500 will become $1000, and $5000 will become $10,000!

Christine shared her touching story with hundreds in 17 schools, churches, businesses and youth groups in three states during her visit.  And before she returned to Uganda she had a strong and hopeful  message for all of us:

“Do you want to change the world?  It’s easy. Change one little child’s story.”

We can’t change Uganda…but equipped, compassionate and educated young adults like Christine will. She has already saved countless lives and dreams of saving so many more. And we are trying to change many stories, who will in turn change countless lives.

How you can help change a child’s story:

1) GIVE TODAY so that there is capacity to grow.  Have your money doubled just by noting “MATCH” in the notes online or on your check. V2V is now moving into a new part of Serere, and setting up a second local office serving desperately isolated and needy children. It is difficult to reach them, and it expands our territory within Serere district to unfamiliar areas, but we could not look away.  Some of these children are needier than any we have ever served before.  And many of the huge families hadn’t eaten for days before we arrived.

2) SPONSOR a child or a guardian. Several new children and families are joining our program in the next week that will need love, encouragement and support to have the hope and resilience to grow and thrive.

3)WATCH and SHARE Dr. Christine’s story with others. It is compelling. Once struggling for even one meal a day, she is now changing her world. Help her story inspire other individuals, churches and businesses join in to make a difference.

We are grateful for caring partners like you!
