The Memorial Garden is designed so that the members of The Presbyterian Church of Basking Ridge and their families have a final resting place available to them for the ashes of their loved ones who have entered the Church Triumphant. Our Garden is a living memorial of simple and natural beauty to those who have passed on and a source of quiet comfort and helpfulness to those who remain.
Without headstones or markers, the beauty of the area and the Garden itself become the memorial rather than the exact location where ashes are placed.
The garden is located at the northeast corner of the cemetery grounds adjoining the church. Ashes are interred in a simple box beneath the sod of the Upper or Lower Lawn Areas.
The cost of interment of ashes in the garden includes placing the name and dates of the interred on a plaque in the Garden and also in the official Memorial Records of the church.
There is no theological or ecclesiastical impediment to cremation. As Christians we believe there should be reverent care of our earthly remains. This is done out of respect for the deceased and in awe of the handiwork of God. For many people, cremation is a proper and fitting way for the disposal of the earthly body.
Gifts from members of the church make this Garden and its maintenance possible. If you wish to assure yourself of a reverent place of interment, or if you wish to contribute towards our beautiful Memorial area, please contact Janet Bentley.
