Last summer our denomination took action that granted Presbyterian clergy permission, at their discretion, to officiate at same-sex marriages in states where such marriages are legal. Additionally, as of March 17 a majority of the 171 presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) have approved a change to the current description of marriage in the PC(USA)’s Constitution. The new language affirms that marriage is a “unique commitment between two people, traditionally a man and a woman . . .” This is a departure from the previous language which described marriage being between “a man and a woman.”

There is a very worthwhile article in The Presbyterian Outlook that tells more of the story. It can be found at http://pres-outlook.org/2015/03/pcusa-marriage-amendment-passes/.
