Our fall sermon series has been reminding us that Jesus cared more that his followers participated in heartfelt actions than just stating their beliefs. Last Sunday we heard how disciples practice generosity, and all of last week I witnessed many people doing just that: lovingly making meals, playing with the children, sleeping overnight, loading and unloading beds, transporting beds, picking up and returning linens, shopping for food, just to name a few. We had a wonderful week hosting the IHN program, and as someone mentioned, even though it may be sad to see the broken families, it is wonderful to provide them with a “home”, include them into our church family, observe how they encourage and depend on each other and hear the children laughing.
One night after the blessing was said, the 3 year old shouted AMEN and clapped, we all followed his lead. Another night the 6 year old told a member “I wuv you”. One mother cried tears when she said that saying thank you – two words – could never express how much gratitude she felt in her heart. Many thanks go to Anne Gaus, Janet & Mark Bentley, Gabriella Obregon, Abbie & Pete Sorge & family, Sue Frantz, Betty Mills, Sally & Ken Warman, Betsy Fryling, Helen Koenig, Joanne Howell, Amanda Hughes, Bobbi & Mike Rountree, Jeanne Poehner, Jill & Tom Brown, Karen Cokewood, Jean Smith, Pam Meyers, Michelle Ortega, Dennis Jones, Scott Eichhorn, Carol & Richard Skidmore, Ronna Storm, Ruth Bashe, Rudy Hyzer and the Scouts and Sonja Ryan (Bishop Janes). Thanks be to God for these disciples.
Our next hosting week is Dec 4th – 11th. Sign-ups can be done online, at church or by calling Joan Eichhorn (908 350 3110). Since this week is during Advent and a busy time of year, you can start signing up now online or call/email Joan. We are always in need of volunteers and it is truly a rewarding experience. So please prayerfully think about giving these homeless brothers and sisters in Christ a few hours of your time.
