Summer Garden Walk — Leonard J. Buck Garden

Date(s) - 05/22/2022
2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Our first Summer Garden walk will be held May 22nd at the Leonard J. Buck Gardens in Far Hills.

Leonard J. Buck Garden is one of the premier rock gardens in the eastern United States. Begun in the late 1930’s, the garden has reached a breathtaking point of maturity. It consists of a series of alpine and woodland gardens situated in a 33-acre wooded stream valley. Named for Mr. Leonard J. Buck, who developed the garden as part of his estate, it was donated to the Somerset County Park Commission by Mrs. Helen Buck in 1976.

We will meet at the garden visitor center which is located at 11 Layton Road, Far Hills, NJ 07931, just a short hop from the Church off Rt 202 in Far Hills. The Gardens are handicapped accessible although some areas require navigating steps or slopes (the Gardens can be enjoyed without these if preferred). There are two parking lots and we will convene at 2:30 pm at the visitor center which has interpretive displays and restrooms.  The walk will take about an hour and you are free to leave at any time if  your schedule requires. Please sign up below.

Other garden walks will be scheduled for Sunday afternoons in June, July, and August.

Tentative choices are:

  • June: Frelinghuysen Arboretum (Morris Township)
  • July: Greenwood Gardens (Short Hills)
  • August: Colonial Park Gardens (Somerset)

These are intended to be opportunities for fellowship with friends while enjoying the beauty of nature in the wonderful environment of our part of New Jersey.
