Kids collect food for God’s Co-op Food Pantry in Bernardsville
Food drive donations
Youngsters in the BRPC Spirit Program conducted a food drive at King’s Supermarket in Bernardsville on Saturday, February 22 for the benefit of the God’s Co-op Food Pantry.
Our children, kindergarten through 5th grade, worked in shifts from 9am to 1pm, under the guidance of Jackie Obregon, Anne Pinto and Rev. Jones.
They collected:
- $244 in cash
- 72 cans of soup
- 65 cans of tuna
- 51 boxes of pasta
- 44 jars of peanut butter
- 39 cans of beans
- 36 cans of fruit
- 34 boxes of cereal
- 30 boxes of mac and cheese
- 8 cans of vegetables
- 2 jars of applesauce
- 2 boxes of rice
Anne Pinto described the experience, “It was a joy to see the kids interact with the shoppers. All the people who donated were clearly happy to do so. Jackie and I could tell they were genuinely touched by the kids enthusiasm; some people actually got teary. What a wonderful day it was!”
The kids also enjoyed themselves, saying:
“I felt good because I was helping people.”
“I was happy because we had to keep going to the van to put the food in it.”
“It was fun to work with our friends from Spirit.”
“It was fun to make the signs we used to decorate the table and shopping cart.”
On behalf of the Food Pantry we say, “Well done! and Thank you, Thank you!” to our Spirit youngsters and their leaders.
