The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
May the Lord give strength to his people!
May the Lord bless his people with peace!— Psalm 29:10-11
A group of 9 members and friends of BRPC spent four days helping people in Laurinburg and Whiteville North Carolina recover from damage due to Hurricane Florence. This is one of the poorest counties in North Carolina, and most people don’t have flood insurance because it is not an area that normally floods.
We spent the first day and a half removing all the drywall and insulation from a house which appeared to have flooded from rain through a damaged roof. The second house we worked on had flooded from a nearby drainage ditch which had also washed out the road. We worked to remove insulation and air conditioning ductwork from the crawl space under the house.
Participants included Maureen Paterson and Gregor and Angus Rankine, Josh Felter, Brad and Florence Henry, Ruth Bashe, Gary Ingram, and Bob Stewart from the Pluckemin Presbyterian Church.
We worked under the auspices of the NC Baptists on Mission relief organization, and were hosted by the New Hope Baptist Church in Laurinburg.
Here’s a video of some of our work:
